Ruby’s Incredible Cranberry sauce PLUS
I have always loved cranberry sauce. While for some it’s a tiny spoon of color next to their turkey slice, cranberry sauce is the center of attention on my plate. I started making it when everyone decided I wasn’t much of a cook. Truth be told, I just never put effort into cooking and never developed my cooking skill.
Last year I became more excited about the combining of flavor and what I could do in the kitchen. My cranberry sauce became a huge hit. And ’tis the season to share. Enjoy!
Ruby’s Incredible Cranberry Sauce PLUS
Ingredients
- 1 cup (200 g) sugar
- 1 cup (250 mL) water
- 4 cups (1 12-oz package) fresh cranberries
- 1/2 green apple cubed (or whatever apple you like)
- orange zest
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup pecans
- cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, or whatever spices you like
Method
1 Wash and pick over cranberries. In a saucepan bring to a boil water and sugar, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add cranberries and apple, return to a boil. Reduce heat, simmer for 10 minutes or until cranberries burst (I let some cranberries remain unpopped).
2 At this point, add pecans, orange zest, raisins and spices to taste.
3 Remove from heat. Cool completely at room temperature and then chill in refrigerator. Cranberry sauce will thicken as it cools
Makes one batch.
